Ukraine's health supplies hit in series of Russian strikes on medical warehouses Warehouses supplying the vast majority of Ukraine's pharmacies have been destroyed in a series of Russian attacks over recent months. Medical supplies worth about $200m (£145m) were destroyed in just two strikes in December and October. A large warehouse storing medicines in the city of Dnipro was destroyed in a Russian air strike on 6 December. As a result, about $110m worth of medicines were destroyed - estimated at up to 30% of Ukraine's monthly supply. It was a missile and drone strike against our facility.

Duqm SEZ ready for AI, 3D printing investments

The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Duqm is being prepped for investments related to artificial intelligence (AI) as well as 3D-printing projects, a senior official announced on Saturday. Eng Saleh bin Rashid al Hashmi, Director General of Planning and Engineering Affairs and Head of the Modern Building and 3D Printing Techniques Team at SEZAD, said the zone can provide a suitable and attractive environment for experimenting such technologies offered by the corporates specialised in modern building techniques. Successful technologies can then be promoted within and outside the Sultanate, he noted. "The Zone welcomes the initiatives of local and international private sector companies and research institutions to expand their services and activities and develop their business in SEZAD. Accordingly, investors will be stimulated to use modern technologies that serve reducing the building cost and duration of projects as well as providing environment-friendly buildings", Al Hashmi commented.


Supervisory team formed for Artificial Intelligence Zone at Duqm

Muscat: A field visit for the Steering Committee team, in charge of supervising the zone designated for artificial intelligence (AI) at Duqm was organised by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ). The steering committee includes representatives from several government entities, namely the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA). This came after the recent announcement of the OPAZ, allocating an area of 18 square kilometres of land to support and encourage the use of modern techniques, including AI experiments in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad). "The Authority is seeking to achieve several key objectives, most importantly, the localisation of investment opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence, drone experiments and future technology," Ahmed bin Saleh Al Farsi, Chairman of the Committee, said. "In addition to building basic infrastructure to apply e-government strategy and smart cities, the Authority will also be creating and implementing research opportunities in the zone under the supervision of the committee for practical and academic uses, and to overcome the challenges and difficulties facing the implementation of AI projects, drones and future technology in the zone," he added.
